Frequently Asked Questions

What is a caregiver registry?

The purpose of a caregiver registry is to create a professional and safe market that allows seniors needing in-home care and caregivers to find each other. The registry acts as an intermediary between the client and the caregiver.

Is Ray of Sunshine licensed by the appropriate government agencies?

Yes, Ray of Sunshine offices are licensed by the appropriate state agency/agencies.

How are caregivers selected to be on the registry?

Part of Ray of Sunshine’s services is to locate quality caregivers for inclusion in our registry. There is an initial screening over the phone. The caregiver completes all required paperwork, and the registry conducts a thorough state-wide criminal background screening. If the caregiver is new to the state then a criminal background check is also done in the previous state of residence. State mandated registry checks are also done on each caregiver, and references are verified and checked. Ray of Sunshine also collects copies of the caregivers’ driver’s licenses, social security cards and other documents to help verify eligibility to work. These records are periodically up-dated.

Will I always have the same caregiver?

If the caregiver is a good fit for you, Ray of Sunshine does not, and cannot, interfere in the relationship. If the caregiver cannot provide services on a given day, the caregiver is committed to working hard to find a suitable substitute through the Ray of Sunshine registry, pre-screened, qualified and meeting your needs. At no time does Ray of Sunshine have the right to force a caregiver on you, or take a caregiver away. You call the shots.

Do the caregivers on your registry only provide services in private residences?

No. The caregivers are happy to provide their services in any environment that makes you feel safe and secure. They can provide services in your own home, a family member’s home, a hospital, assisted living facility, retirement facility, rehab or a health care facility.

Will my long-term care insurance cover the caregiver’s services?

In many cases, long term care insurance will reimburse you for the caregiver’s services. As part of its services to you, Ray of Sunshine will work with you and your insurance company to make this process simple and efficient.

Do I need to sign a contract?

You are never locked into any minimum length of time. You can stop receiving services from the caregivers at any time. Ray of Sunshine has a client-directed consent and agreement for services form that needs to be signed before the caregiver can provide services.

Can I make changes after I signed the agreement?

Yes. Just make arrangements with your caregiver and then let us know.

How does scheduling work?

You choose the hours you need and the schedule that fits your lifestyle. You and the caregiver can schedule for a few hours a day, a couple of times a week or even for twenty four hours a day (which normally involves you finding a couple of caregivers to trade off), seven days a week. Again, the schedule is entirely up to you and your caregiver.

What if i don’t like the caregiver?

Sometimes people just don’t match-up. You have ultimate quality control. You have the unqualified right to obtain a replacement referral from Ray of Sunshine without any explanation.

How and when is payment made?

Clients are invoiced weekly and payment is made weekly. Payment is made to Ray of Sunshine for added protection. As part of the services to you, Ray of Sunshine disburses the funds to the caregivers on your behalf. Detailed financial records are maintained on all client payments and disbursements of all funds. You are not burdened with keeping these records.
